The Fall Collection is finally here! I look forward to the release of these six polishes more than any others during the year! This is partly because fall is my favorite time of year and also because I always feel like the essie team kills the Fall Collection and creates some of their most gorgeous and iconic shades for this particular launch each year. I was definitely not disappointed as all six of these lived up to my standards and essie came out with another GORG collection. These shades were based on the 90’s and honestly this collection couldn’t be more perfect for me because I’m a 90’s baby. Scroll below to see swatches, comparisons, and an in depth review of each polish.
From left to right: ‘Mixtaupe’, ‘Saved By The Belle’, ‘As If!’, ‘Knee-High Life’, ‘Girly Grunge’, and ‘Dressed To The Nineties’.
First up is ‘Mixtaupe’, a warm ivory with a dash of pink. This one covered completely in two coats and had a super creamy formula. This one was the unsung hero of the collection for me as I wasn’t really excited about it when I saw photos but once I put it on I knew it was an all around winner that can be worn any time of the year.
Next we have ‘Saved By The Belle’, a light baby pink with a subtle blue undertone. This one was the most difficult for me to apply out of all the polishes in the collection. It took three coats for most nails and four coats for some to cover up balding and streaks. This one is a gorgeous baby pink color it just takes a bit of work to get it there. I also love the name, I literally watched Saved By The Bell before the school bus came to pick me up growing up so this one definitely hit home!
The namesake of this collection ‘As If’ is a powdery periwinkle blue with a hint of red. This one was almost a one coat wonder but needed two just to make the polish color as opaque as it was meant to be. This one is so pretty on and is my choice of color at the moment!
‘Knee-High Life’ is a deep wine red with purple undertones. I felt indifferent about this one as it was a good color and had a great formula but was kind of the same old red to me as I always swatch. essie always puts a reddish polish in every collection and I’m wondering if there will ever be one without it? Don’t get me wrong this is a great polish but to me it just feels like another red for my collection.
‘Girly Grunge’ is a soft silvery metallic with a light purple shine. This one definitely did not disappoint and was just as unique and beautiful in person as it was in the photos I saw online. This took two coats in order to get the streaks out and to level out the polish. This one does dry quickly like most metallics do so you have to work quickly in order to get the polish to look just right.
‘Dressed To The Nineties’, is a dark purple with a green-blue shimmer. This one is right up my alley and is seriously everything I love about a polish wrapped into one- great formula, micro-shimmer embedded within, unlike any others I own, and is dark toned.
Here is a photo of all six polishes from the collection side by side!
Below are comparisons of the Fall Collection to similar polishes from my personal collection so that you can see how they compare!
As you can see ‘Urgan Jungle’, ‘Mixtaupe’, and ‘Meet & Treat’ are all very similar polishes. ‘Urban Jungle’ and ‘Mixtaupe’ were the closest with ‘Mixtaupe’ being slightly pinker hued.
‘Saved By The Belle’ and ‘Social Butterfly’ were the closest out of these four polishes. SB was a tad bit lighter pink but overall very similar.
‘As If!’ was completely different than any polish in my collection. This one is a true periwinkle blue and I don’t have anything similar to that in my personal collection.
‘Very Cranberry’ and ‘Knee-High Life’ were almost identical when I put them on side by side. VC was a tad bit darker but to the non essie obsessed eye they look the same.
Both of these polishes are purple toned with blue micro shimmer so I decided to compare them even though you can see that they are definitely not dupes. ‘Clocking My Beauty Sleep’ is a lighter dustier purple, while Dressed To The Nineties is a dark purple almost black looking polish.
I didn’t do a comparison of ‘Girly Grunge’ because I don’t have anything in my collection like it. The only polish that I do know that comes close to this that essie made is ‘Nothing Else Metals’, also a metallic purple polish.
My favorites from this collection were ‘As If!’, ‘Girly Grunge’, and ‘Dressed To The Nineties’ but I also really loved ‘Mixtaupe’. ‘Saved By The Belle’ and ‘Knee-High Life’ were ones that I could have done without. I can’t wait to try out some nail art with these colors so be on the lookout for some 90’s inspired designs on my Instagram!
The products in this post were sent to me by essie, however this post was all my personal opinion. #essiepartner
