I recently sat down and swatched all six of the polishes from essie’s new Retro Revival Collection. I was very pleased with some of the polishes and a little disappointed with others. Overall I think the idea of bringing back some of fans favorite essie shades was a great idea (especially Starry Starry Night). Now lets get started talking about the polishes so you can see what you think of the collection!
Left to right: Bikini With A Martini, Sequin Sash, Starry Starry Night, Cabana Boy, Life Of The Party, and Birthday Suit
First up is ‘Bikini With A Martini’ a frosted iridescent pink. This polish is one of my least favorites from the collection. It is a very streaky and sheer polish and i’m just not a fan of this shade of frosted pink. For those of you who love sheer polishes with a bit of shimmer this might be the one for you! (pictured is three coats of polish)
Next is ‘Sequin Sash’, a sheer glittery bronze. This polish is something that I would use as a topper opposed to on its own. I am definitely not a fan of this polish as I don’t generally like sheers and this polish is the most sheer that I own. I don’t think that this color would ever become opaque no matter how many coats I apply. Over a more opaque color the shimmer of this polish would look lovely so it is not a complete loss! (pictured is three coats of polish)
My all time favorite from this collection and now one of my favorites from my personal collection is ‘Starry Starry Night’. This polish is a twinkling midnight blue with silver and blue sparkles throughout. I’ve never loved another polish more and couldn’t stop looking at it on my nails when I had it on! I would recommend stocking up as this polish won’t be back for long!(pictured is two coats of polish)
My second favorite from the collection is ‘Cabana Boy’. This is an ultra-cool pearly white (it looks more grayish to me). This is a color that can be worn any time of the year and is good to go in just a few coats. This will definitely be one of my new go to polishes. (pictured is three coats but it is mostly opaque in two)
This pinot noir pearl is called ‘Life Of The Party’. I absolutely love this ruby polish and its formula. This is a great color for fall and the holiday season and I highly recommend it! (pictured is two coats of polish)
Last is ‘Birthday Suit’, a delicate cheeky nude. I am not a fan of nude polishes and never really have been so no surprise that this was one of my least favorites. I do like that this is a jelly polish and that it does apply well for how sheer it is. In order to get good coverage I would recommend waiting longer in between coats than normal. (pictured is three coats of polish)
**In all swatches I used the seche vite clear base coat and the seche vite dry fast top coat, no editing was done to any photo to show the true color of each polish.
Here is a photo of all six shades so that you can see them together! My top picks are ‘Starry Starry Night’, ‘Cabana Boy’, and ‘Life Of The Party’- what are your favorites?
